Jacobo Balairon

Jacobo Balairon

Veterinarian

I have always loved animals and felt most happy when surrounded by nature, at school biology and science were always my preferred subjects so Veterinary medicine became the only profession that would truly interest me. During my school years I dived deep into wildlife medicine working for the Zoo of Madrid, volunteering at numerous Wildlife rescue centers and doing research in Bone grafting for orthopedic surgeries in birds. It was this vocation that led me to come to California for a small stay at the prestigious Marine Mammal Center of Sausalito, Ca. It was at this point that when a Motorcycle accident forced me to pause my life for a few months, I decided to re-focus my professional interests into Small Animal Care but maintain my interests in Surgery and Orthopedics.

When I’m not at work I try to spend the most time possible with my Wife, two sons and two dogs going out on hikes, walks through the beach, Yoga or Bicycle rides.

Carolyn Robbins

Carolyn Robbins

Medical Director

Ever since childhood, I’ve been captivated by animals and the sciences—biology and music shaped my early academic path. After earning degrees in both music and biology, I spent time conducting ecology research and even freelanced as a professional French horn player. While studying parasitic diseases in wild birds, I delved into veterinary literature and discovered my true calling. Today, as Medical Director at PCAH, my heart lies in surgery and dentistry—there’s nothing more rewarding than transforming a sick or injured patient into a healthy, happy one. I thrive on learning every day, collaborating with colleagues to solve complex cases, educating pet parents, and mentoring the team. Guided by the belief that “everyone is doing the best they can,” I approach each case—and every person and pet—with compassion, creativity, and an open mind. Outside the clinic, you’ll find me exploring the outdoors with my husband, daughter, and our two dogs.

Gaby Monterrosa

Gaby Monterrosa

Veterinarian

Dr. Monterrosa grew up in Long Beach, California, where her love for animals began at a young age. That early passion led her to study biology and zoology at Cal Poly Pomona and later pursue her veterinary degree at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.

During her journey, she had some unforgettable experiences that shaped her approach to animal care. She traveled to Africa as part of the EcoLife Vets in the Wild program, where she worked with wildlife and gained a deeper understanding of conservation efforts. She also spent time volunteering at the Aquarium of the Pacific, which gave her valuable insight into caring for marine animals. These moments helped her grow as a veterinarian and reinforced her focus on small animals and their families.

When she’s not working, Dr. Monterrosa enjoys reading, exploring new places, trying different foods, and walking along the beach with her dog. She’s grateful to be in a field where she can make a positive impact on animals and the people who care for them.

Max Orbita

Max Orbita

Veterinarian

Growing up under both a piano and a lab bench, Max’s journey into veterinary medicine was shaped by a lifelong balance between the arts and sciences. After exploring different academic paths, veterinary medicine emerged as the perfect blend—uniting problem-solving, creativity, and meaningful connection.

What Max loves most about his work is caring for pets while building strong relationships with the people who love them. Whether collaborating with pet parents to find solutions or discussing ways to enrich a pet’s quality of life, those conversations are at the heart of the day.

His favorite part of the workday starts early. Arriving before the bustle allows time to get grounded, prepare thoughtfully, and scrub in for procedures with focus and intention.

Originally drawn to pathology in veterinary school, his interests evolved to include preventive medicine and surgery. He pursued additional surgical training, including laparoscopic certification, to continue providing advanced and thoughtful care.

Guided by the belief that “fortune favors the prepared mind,” he approaches each day ready to learn, adapt, and grow—even when faced with the unexpected.

Outside the hospital, you’ll often find him embracing nature through homesteading—tending plants in the greenhouse, relaxing pond-side, or experimenting in the kitchen, all while enjoying indie music or an NPR game show.

We’re grateful to have such a passionate, well-rounded veterinarian on our team—and we know your pets are too!

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
